Provider Communications

We’re excited to introduce Provider Communication, a powerful enhancement that replaces the previous Referral tab in the Documents view. This update expands your ability to communicate with other healthcare providers directly from Autochart.ai, whether you're sending referrals, consult summaries, or other clinical correspondence.


🔄 What’s Changed?

Encounters View Updates

  • The Communication tab has been renamed to Patient Communication.

    💡 This is purely a label change—functionality remains the same.

  • The Referral tab has been replaced by the new and improved Provider Communication tab.


Lets take a deeper look at the Provider Communication Tab

🩺 Introducing the Provider Communication Tab

At first glance, the new tab may look similar to the old Referral view—and that's by design. However, there's one important upgrade:
You can now choose from a variety of communication types—not just referrals.

✅ How to Use It

  1. Open the Provider Communication tab in the Documents view.

  2. Select a Communication Type from the dropdown (e.g., referral, consult note, follow-up).

  3. Enter the Recipient’s Role and Name (just like before).

  4. Click Generate Provider Communication—and you’re done.

🛠️ Creating Custom Provider Communication Types

Need to send a different kind of message? You’re not limited to the default options. You can fully customize your communication types by visiting the AI Settings tab.

How to Access:

  1. Click your name in the top-right corner of the screen.

  2. Select Settings to open the dashboard.

  1. You’ll land on the AI Settings tab by default.

  2. Navigate to Provider Communications on the left.

Here, you’ll see a familiar interface if you’ve used the Note Types tab before.


What You Can Do:

  • Set a default provider communication type (this appears automatically in dropdowns).

  • Clone existing types or create your own from scratch.

  • Use Learn My Style to generate a communication type based on your past examples—for referrals, consult letters, or anything else.

If you already use custom Note Types, the experience here will feel intuitive and familiar.


⚙️ Automatically Generate Provider Communications After an Encounter

You can even automate Provider Communication creation:

  • After completing a recorded encounter, open the Advanced Options in the recording modal.

  • Find the dropdown labeled “Create Provider Communication?”

    • Default: No (no communication will be generated automatically).

  • To automate it, select one of your available Provider Communication types.

Once you generate your encounter note, the corresponding communication will be created for you—no extra steps needed.

The new Provider Communication system gives you more flexibility, more control, and more efficiency in how you connect with colleagues. Whether you’re sending a referral, a follow-up, or a custom consult note, you can do it all—your way.
